Job Overview: Program Officer
The Tipton County Foundation was founded in 1986 by community minded individuals seeking to make a difference in Tipton County. By continuing to serve donors through charitable fund management, grant and scholarship administration, and community leadership, the Foundation has grown into a community-serving institution managing 75 million in assets toward the measured betterment of the County.
The Program Officer (PO) reports to the President & CEO and manages the Foundation’s traditional grantmaking and scholarship programs. This is a community impact-focused position where relationship-building and communication skills are essential for success. The ability to ask the right questions, investigate opportunities, identify pitfalls, empathize, and strategize with potential grantees is paramount.
Primary Responsibilities: Grantmaking
The PO will oversee the Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking program, managing the online application system and guiding potential grantees to a completed request. He / She will also manage the grant reporting process, recording and measuring progress, impact, and potential improvements to Foundation grantmaking.
The PO will cooperate with Community Outreach and Donor Relations Manager (CODRM) to oversee grants from donor advised funds, and to monitor non-discretionary grants from funds with direct designations. This includes handling grants generated by donor advisors and contacting donor advisors with potential opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities: Scholarships
This position will manage the Foundation’s online scholarship system. The marketing of scholarships is the responsibility of the CODRM, while scholarship decisions are made by the volunteer chair and committee (with appropriate guidance by the PO).
Secondary Responsibilities: Non-Profit Support
It is also the role of the PO to support local non-profits where appropriate. This support may include connecting them to board and volunteer training, grant-writing assistance, assistance with government filings, or fundraising support. This may be done upon request by a local organization’s governing body, in conjunction with a grant or sponsorship, or as a part of the larger community leadership role of TCF.
Other Responsibilities as Assigned
These include hands-on assistance with events as needed and administrative support as needed. This also includes speaking with donors, scholarship recipients, grantees, etc. and providing a welcoming environment, guiding them to the assistance or staff person who can best meet their needs.
*Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work to be conducted primarily in office, however some work will be done in school and hotel environments, and some work may be conducted remotely. This position requires night and weekend work. Some travel is required. Valid US driver’s license is required.
Some lifting (up to 30 lbs.). Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
