Youth Philanthropy Council

Student Position Description

The mission of each member of the Youth Philanthropy Council is to make a personally significant investment of their time, talent, and treasure in a cause that matters, and encourage others to do the same.

Eligibility: Students in grades 6 – 12 with a home, job, church, or roots in Tipton County may serve on the Council. All persons of any age or location may take part in the service work or fund-raising projects.

Structure: A representative steering committee will guide the planning, organization, recruitment, training, and evaluation of the Council. The steering committee, the Council, and task groups that may be established to accomplish the mission will set up a year-round schedule of meetings. The greatest effect will result from the work between meetings, as with any group of citizens seeking worthwhile goals.

Activities

  • Be a reliable member of any club, team, or other volunteer group that has a mission you care about.

  • Be faithful in attendance at meetings and activities of the organizations you join.

  • Support the fund-raising projects that your organizations undertake.

  • Learn how to become a better member, leader, giver, and “asker” for causes that matter.

  • Be involved in Youth Philanthropy Council consideration of causes that matter to Tipton County.

  • Help promote the cause(s) adopted by the Youth Philanthropy Council, including with the use of photos, writings, social networking websites (Facebook), etc.

  • Advocate for community action in support of Youth Philanthropy goals.

  • Make a financial contribution to help achieve Youth Philanthropy goals.

  • Encourage the support of others for projects of the Youth Philanthropy Council.

 Agreement

As a Volunteer for the Tipton County Foundation Youth Philanthropy Council, I have a responsibility to ensure that the Council does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals. I believe in the purpose and the mission of the Foundation and Council to serve donors, award grants, and provide community leadership, and I will act responsibly and prudently as a representative. As part of my responsibilities as a volunteer:

  1. I will make a personally significant investment of time, talent, and treasure in the Youth Philanthropy Council, and encourage others to do the same.

  2. I will explain the Council’s work and values to all ages in the community, and obtain information for people that I cannot answer on my own.

  3. I will attend at least 75% of the meetings, and the events related to my role.

  4. I will stay informed about what is going on in the Council. I will ask questions and request information. I will participate in discussions on issues and concerns of people like me and others whom I care about.

  5. I will work in good faith with others as partners towards achievement of our goals, and maintain the confidentiality of personal information about which I may become aware.

  6. If I do not fulfill these commitments to the Council, I will expect a leader to call on me and discuss my responsibilities with me.
