Grants Awarded to Local OrganizationsFoundation Hosts Family Open HouseNovember 29, 2006Tipton County Foundation has invited the general public to visit its headquarters on Sunday, December 3, for a “Family Open House” from 2 to 5 p.m. Board chairman Tom McKinney said, “This will be an opportunity to celebrate what is a very successful conclusion of our twentieth anniversary year. Folks can view the remarkable art exhibit we have on display, kids can enjoy holiday videos on the giant screen in our auditorium, and everyone can share refreshments with our board of directors. Those who time their visit for 3:30 p.m. will have the chance to listen to the Young Originals, Tipton High School’s outstanding show choir.” The art exhibit McKinney referred to is a collection of 40 original paintings by Hoosier artists of agricultural scenes. Details about hours of exhibition and some background on the artwork may be found on the Internet at tiptoncf.org/art.htm. In conjunction with the exhibit, the Foundation is offering collectors edition art books at bargain prices until December 14. In other business, at its recent Board meeting, the Tipton County Foundation approved numerous grant requests from local organizations. Several awards were made from the Findling Trust, established in particular to provide aid to needy children. Findling grants of $300 to $3,000 were made to supplement the work of the following groups: Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County, Domestic Violence Coalition, Friends of the Tipton County Library, Hope Chest, Jubilee Christmas, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Shoes for Kiddies, Tipton County Medicine Chest, Tipton County Ministerial Association, Tipton County Mustard Seed, Tipton Lions Club, Tipton Middle School, and Tri Kappa Sorority. From its competitive general grant fund, the Foundation awarded $12,000 to be paid in 2007 to Habitat for Humanity, to help purchase supplies to repair homes of low income families, the elderly and the disabled; $3,500 to Tipton Hospital, to match hospital resources or other funds raised for a colposcope, to be used in the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program; $3,400 to Tipton Community Theatre, to host a workshop to train children and adults in important aspects of live theater and to increase awareness of their season of shows; $30,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County, to be paid in 2007 for leadership development, education, and recreation programming; and $6,000 to the Tipton County Council on Aging, to pay the monthly utility bills for the Senior Citizens Center in 2007. Although funds are limited, charitable organizations are invited to download the grant application from the Foundation website. The deadline for applications to be submitted for consideration at the next meeting of the grantmaking committee is January 3, 2007. Payments to grantees in this quarter are not likely until March. Persons who need assistance in completing the application may contact the Foundation. To make a lasting contribution to the quality of Tipton County life, potential donors and potential grantees may contact Frank M. Giammarino, president & CEO, at the Foundation’s office: 765-675-8480.
