The TCF Board is considering the establishment of certain "Field of Interest Funds" (in addition to some already created) that will make endowed or operating funds available, according to donor wishes, to fulfill needs that the Grantmaking committee and Board of Directors may discern from time to time through community suggestions, applications, and donations. Anyone may contribute. The Foundation awards grants in response to competitive applications.

Robert and Ibby Schram Education Fund • Provides Support for Education Projects (not college scholarships). [507]

Katrina Disaster Recovery Fund • Dormant Now, Pending a Similar Need. NE [314]

NEW: Women's Philanthropy Fund [560]

NEW: Arts, Culture, Humanities Fund [561]

Funds That May Be Created If Community Support Warrants It:

  • Environment and Animal Welfare

  • Health and Human Services

  • Recreation

  • Volunteerism and Leadership Development

  • Youth Philanthropy

Such new funds would each provide a special pool of money that would provide Foundation grants to organizations that support the cause mentioned, without giving control of the total fund to any particular agency.

Each year, the Foundation applies some of the earnings from its investments to the various individual Funds that have been established at TCF since its founding in 1986. Primarily, this is “operating money.” Each Fund can use these earnings for the grants it makes to fulfill its intended purposes. Most of the Funds at TCF are “Endowed,” made up of donations that can never be spent. These endowments receive an extra payout from the Foundation’s earnings to help them accumulate and not lose value to inflation over time.

In the list above, a Fund with the designation, “NE” is Not Endowed. This means that the full amount of the contributions made could eventually be withdrawn for the intended purpose. This is useful for a building fund, for example, or for short-term projects. At the end of each listing, the bracketed [number] is the reference number the Foundation uses in accounting for that Fund.
