1. Fee Income: 1/2 of 1% of the total value of each component fund managed by TCF is paid toward the cost of administration of the Foundation

2. The Grantmaking Committee recommends to the Board of Directors approval of proposals from community organizations for projects that seek Foundation support. Although funds are limited, groups engaged in charitable projects are invited to review the guidelines for grant proposals found at http://www.tiptoncf.org/grants.htm on the Foundation’s website.

3. These figures include only payments actually made from funds managed by the Foundation. Tipton and Tri-Central students (and alumni) receive hundreds of thousands in annual and financial aid dollars not reported here. 4. Component Funds are all the endowed and non-endowed funds that are established with a particular purpose, including our General Endowment and others that help underwrite the costs of doing business as a community foundation. Besides numerous Funds, TCF holds Agency Funds established to produce consistent support for certain incorporated non-profit organizations (including churches), Field of Interest Funds that can make grants for particular kinds of projects rather than any particular agency, and donor-advised or designated funds, set up by and usually named for their principal contributor to benefit a particular group of causes each year.

5. Management & General Expenses are those categories that are typical costs of any business. For TCF, they are about 24% of total expenditures.

6. Fundraising Expenses are those they help underwrite the costs of telling the Foundation's story and seeking the broad public support that is necessary for fulfilling its charitable mission. Although these vary, depending on campaigns and initiatives underway in any given year, they average less than 3% of our total expenses.

7. Total assets include our investments in marketable securities (about $19.5 million on December 31, 2009), cash, and the value of the Foundation Office & Conference Center and the land where it is located.

Progress Report

Since our Spring 2008 Report, the investments that make it possible to distribute money to the Foundation’s component funds have made a significant recovery from the worldwide economic downturn of 2008. The Tipton County Foundation also received a consistent level of regular contributions including many new donors in 2009, and stayed within its conservative operating budget.

The Foundation Board is please to extend its "matching" program for 2010! Each fund will receive a match of the first $2,000 endowed by individual donors (not organizations.) Any endowed contributions of any size made since January 1 will count toward the $2,000 per fund. Non-endowed contributions are not matched.

In 2009, the Foundation saw an increase in the Women’s Fund to over $40,000, with many new donors, and as is essential, many women and girls continuing their support. The Women’s Fund will announce its annual grant recipient at the Afternoon Tea, Sunday, June 13, at the CW Mount Center.

A new initiative this past year was the Youth Philanthropy Council, through which students in grades 7 through 12 from both Tipton and Tri-Central schools are raising money in a “grown-up” way (no bake sales or car washes) to fund improvements in lifespan recreation facilities throughout the county. Your gift of $50 in support of these developing efforts, matched in part by the Foundation, will help pay for the new Walking Trail in Tipton Park, and give the students the opportunity to make mini-grants for improvements at playgrounds and recreation centers in other towns of the county. They hope to celebrate the success of their campaign at Ducky Day in Tipton Park, August 29. We hope to see you there, too!
